Golden scratch cake

2 cups sugar

1 cup butter

4 eggs

1 cup buttermilk

3 cups all-purpose flour 

3 tsp baking power

1 tsp vanilla

dash of salt

Cream sugar, add egg yolks

Sift flour and baking powder, and add the milk 

Add vanilla and salt

Fold in stiff beaten egg whites.

Bake 350 until golden on top

Makes 3 layers
